Environmental Sustainability

In designing and building the houses, workshops and other facilities attention will be paid to the environmental aspects and impacts of the development. Houses will benfit from solar gain and heat storage, water conservation measures including rain water storage and grey water recylcing for non-potable use will be inbuilt. Other energy saving features such as solar water heaters, district heatiing systems and if affordable photovotaic cells will be elemental in the design.

Reducing dependence on motorised transport by having on site facilities, car sharing and pooling and encouraging the use of public transport and bicycling. If appropriate utilising alternative fuels for vehicles will be implemented in order to reduce pollution and CO2 emissions.

Growing food to contribute to community needs and encouraging other diversification in land use for the benefit of the community and the environment (biomass, orchards, allotments, polytunnels etc.)
