By Design - Mike Jeffries
Designed for 7- 10 year olds (click on image for larger versions)
constructed 2005
The 'small' one is aimed at 7-10 yr olds and has a scramble net, slide, pole, platform, balancing beam (and one day will also have monkey bars). It is made from local materials (cedar from Sharpham) and recycled materials from the local surplus outlet (cargo net and stainless steel pole). It isn't to UK local authority playground standards - but has been considered ok by the HSE at the school.
Climbing frame for older age group (11 -16 year olds)
constructed 2001
The larger one is for 11 - 16 yr olds. Again largely from local or recylced materials (incl telegraph poles) - it has two platforms with a net between, pole, shute, monkey bars, various links (ropes and bars) ladders etc. Again - not to a UK LEA standard - but there have only been minor injuries reported to date. :) Both are low cost in terms of material, take some time to build and tend to evolve during the build process. Others that I have built have utilised the location - ie adjacent to trees or banks to incoporate them into the features.
